Fall time in the Garden

Fall planting has begun... and many things are still being harvested. More manure was brought in and tilled in this week, for new plantings of broccoli, garlic, and other fall plants. We still are harvesting much... although signs of fall are all around. The pumpkins are ready to be harvested and decorated for the season!

Week 8, June 16th

Posting some older photos from June. The garden has grown much larger since then and updated shots will be added shortly. This is one of our pumpkin plants.

Harvest Time

It is so rewarding to see all of the hard work pay off. Our garden is beautiful! The food tastes delicious! It is so fun for the kids to see the "science" of growing a garden. Last Saturday we were able to "reap" some of the reward by picking some delicious zucchini, yellow crookneck squash, beets, cucumbers and carrots. This is such a great learning experience for the whole family!

Day 5/ Week 3

This was only the 3rd week since we first started working on the garden and we've accomplished so much! We all worked hard this week with shoveling more manure into the second installment of corn, rototilling the corn area and then planting the corn. We prepared the melon furrows and planted more squash, herbs and pumpkin seeds. The stakes are all set for the tomato plants (thanks for your muscles, Rob) and now we are ready to start our daily rotations of garden duties.

We had a Family Home Evening earlier this week where our master gardener, Mel, went over specifics regarding how to hoe and water properly. We each chose a day to be in charge of the garden and will start this up next week.

Day 4, May 5

Today more cucumbers and more peppers were planted. The corn has sprouted, as have the radishes. It's coming along well.

From the front of the photo to the back we have cucumbers, onions, zucchini, bell peppers, hot peppers, cherry tomatoes, regular tomatoes, green beans, radishes, and soon will be varieties of berries, pumpkins, more beans and squash!

Day 3, May 1... the Fun Continues

We accomplished a lot today... we've added onions, beans, radishes, beets, cucumbers and carrots to our garden. Our day was complete with tilling, scooping poop, watering, planting, and mending fences.

Although I didn't take as many pictures as I would have liked, I did manage to get a few excellent shots and lots of smiles.

The kids absolutely love climbing this tree. I know it will be the best part of their whole summer. I don't know about everyone else, but Chiara and Pierce are scratched and bruised from head to toe from all the climbing (and falling). They couldn't be happier!

We can call it another successful day at the garden. Can't wait to meet back at the spot for some more work and fun. So glad we are able to do this together as friends and family.
