Day 5/ Week 3

This was only the 3rd week since we first started working on the garden and we've accomplished so much! We all worked hard this week with shoveling more manure into the second installment of corn, rototilling the corn area and then planting the corn. We prepared the melon furrows and planted more squash, herbs and pumpkin seeds. The stakes are all set for the tomato plants (thanks for your muscles, Rob) and now we are ready to start our daily rotations of garden duties.

We had a Family Home Evening earlier this week where our master gardener, Mel, went over specifics regarding how to hoe and water properly. We each chose a day to be in charge of the garden and will start this up next week.

Mel dammed up the ditches in order to supply the most water to the corn seedlings.
The corn is growing well!
The area for our second phase of corn. We planted Bodacious seeds here.
The herbs and their area.
Kevin placing the herbs.
Beans sprouting up just beautifully!
Onions
Bell peppers
Zucchini
This is the big section (8 furrows!) of potatoes. We have red and gold potatoes planted.
Close up shot of potato plant.
The new stakes on the tomato area.
The pumpkin patch.
Carrots
Radishes
Ladybugs like our radish plants!
The back of the garden is where some of the melons will be planted.
Hoeing the carrot area. Lots of hard work.
The kids helped plant the pumpkin seeds.
It was a warm day, so the shade was very nice.
Some of our hard working crew!

This has been so much fun! We can't wait to reap the benefits of this beautiful garden!
